As the years go by, almost every woman notices a gradual deterioration in the size, shape and feel of her breasts. Gravity, pregnancy, breast-feeding, weight gain and loss all take their toll. Breasts sag. Droop. Soften. Flatten out. Sometimes they atrophy and shrink. Even if the volume stays the same, the firmness, elasticity and erect youthful position is often lost. The breasts may look and feel old. But they don't have to.

A breast lift can help. It can reshape, rejuvenate, lift up and shape up sagging, shrinking breasts. It can also reduce the size of an enlarged, stretched areola (the dark pink skin around the nipple). Dr. Lamb selects a minimal incision pattern or more classic open keyhole pattern of incisions, depending upon the degree of droop within the breasts. Excess skin is removed from the lower part of the breast. The nipple, areola and underlying breast tissue are lifted up to a new, higher position. In suitable candidates internal sutures are placed within the breast, which have a push-up bra effect.

The procedure takes about two hours. After surgery, light surgical dressings and a support bra are placed. Discomfort following the procedure is generally very mild and medication controls any pain or discomfort, which will subside in a few days. Swelling and bruising also generally subside in a few days. A small area of skin adjacent to the incisions may temporarily loose feeling, but it is rare for the nipple to loose any erotic sensitivity. You may be up and around a day or two after surgery. The incisions are sutured with dissolving subcuticular sutures, placed beneath the skin, which give strength to the closure and results in the narrowest achievable scar. Support from a bra and abstinence from exercise are important in the first 4 weeks. Scar width and perceptibility have a lot to do with skin type. Redheads and rosy complected individuals tend to have more perceptible scars, at least for the first year or so. Since they are around and below the nipples, scars shouldn't be noticeable even in low-cut clothing or a bathing suit. They'll fade with time and are easily concealed by a normal brassiere. Afterward, your lifted breasts should look younger, healthier and rejuvenated.
