As aging progresses, skin wrinkling and a
loss of tone can occur in the forehead area as it does in the eyelids
and lower parts of the face. This may cause sagging of the eyebrows,
resulting in a tired or sad look and aggravating the problem of
excess skin of the upper eyelids. It may also result in deepening
of the horizontal expression lines and wrinkling in the forehead
itself. There may be deep, vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
in the center of the forehead.
The forehead lift is designed to correct or
improve these problems. The operation is performed under general
anesthesia. Incisions are placed within the hairline. In some cases,
incisions may be placed at the temple hairline to minimize hairline
shifts. Improvements are made beneath the skin and to the deep muscles;
the skin and muscle are then tightened to give a fresher, more youthful
appearance.
Most patients needing a brow lift can be done
endoscopically. Advantages of the endoscopic technique include reduced
disruption of sensation within the forehead and scalp and faster
healing time and more natural appearance. Using an endoscope, Dr.
Lamb can modify the muscles that cause frown lines and reposition
those muscles to elevate the brows.
The forehead lift may be done in conjunction
with other facial rejuvenating procedures. After surgery, there
will be some temporary swelling and small possibility of some bruising.
Numbness following endoscopic brow lifting is usually limited to
the mid portion of the forehead and is usually short in duration.
Often times a single suction drain will be placed following your
procedure and will be removed within 24 hours. Once the drain has
been removed, you will be able to wash your hair generally within
the third day following your surgery.
We recommend that hair coloring not be done
three weeks prior and three weeks following your brow lift procedure.
Brow lift surgery generally provides many years of enjoyment of
its corrective effects.
