Breast Augmentation FAQ's
- Where does Dr. Lamb typically place the implant?
Dr. Lamb places the implants under the muscle. With the endoscopic approach, your incision will be under your arm and 1-2 in. in length. With the Biplanar Breast Augmentations, your incision will be under your breast (inframammary) and be approximately 1-2 in. in length.
- How long does the breast augmentation surgery take?
Breast Augmentation will take about 1 hour. You will be in recovery for approximately an hour or so after surgery.
- Will I have things I need to do post operatively?
You will have daily exercises to perform on your new breasts. You will do these 4 times per day with 4 reps. Dr. Lamb will show you how on your post-op visit the day after surgery.
After surgery we may also recommend ultrasound sessions at $40.00/session to enhance the appearance of your breasts. These are done next door to us at Blue Ridge Physical Therapy. Ultrasounds are usually performed in groups of 3 and you will pay Blue Ridge directly. Dr. Lamb will tell you if this pertains to you.
- When will I be able to return to normal activities?
You will have lifting and exercise restrictions for up to 4 weeks. Dr. Lamb will tell you when and what you can do as the weeks pass.
- Will I need to have a special bra following surgery?
You will be out of a bra all together for 6 weeks after surgery. After 6 weeks, you may wear a bra, even an underwire bra, but NOT a push-up. Push-up bras can be worn after 4 or 5 months.
- Do I need to limit sun exposure following the surgery?
DO NOT sun your scar or expose it to a tanning bed light for 6-8 months for the best results. If you are going to be in the sun during these 6-8 months, you will need to cover your scar with three layers of material. Your Neosporin scar solutions patch is one layer, a band-aid over the patch is another and your swimsuit/shirt is the last layer. Your attention to this detail will have a large result on perceptibility of your scar.
- Will my implants ever need to be replaced?
Implants typically need to be changed out every 10-14 years. The implants come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
