Kansas City Facelift
Print PageAging is an inevitable process. There will eventually come a time when heredity, the pull of gravity, aging or sun exposure can start to loosen the skin on your face and neck. When this starts to occur, a skilled surgeon like Dr. Lamb can help restore a more youthful, fresh appearance. A facelift can reduce sagging skin on the face and neck, helping these areas to appear firmer and fresher. Your bone structure, heredity and skin texture all play a role in how many "years" a facelift can "remove" and, to some extent, influence how long it will last.
Your Facelift Consultation
If you are interested in a facelift, the first step would be to set-up your comprehensive screening and personal consultation with Dr. Lamb. During your appointment, he will talk to you about what you do not currently like about your facial features and what you hope to accomplish. Dr. Lamb is not only an excellent surgeon but also a very good listener. He will spend the time necessary to answer all of your questions and make sure you thoroughly understand the procedure. After your discussion and an examination, Dr. Lamb can determine if the facelift procedure is right for you. You should plan on spending about an hour with Dr. Lamb discussing the surgery.
Your Facelift Procedure
Dr. Lamb typically performs the facelift procedure on an outpatient basis. To prepare for your facelift surgery, you should follow all of Dr. Lamb's preoperative instructions to ensure the best outcome. If you have any questions as you prepare for the facelift procedure make sure to call the office to get answers. Dr. Lamb will review all of your preoperative requirements prior to the procedure.
Through incisions placed inconspicuously behind the ear, in your hairline, and behind your tragus in front of the ear, Dr. Lamb dissects across the areas of dense attachment to underlying structures to allow the skin and SMAS (a layer of tissue creating facial support) to allow the mobility necessary to result in a long lasting and youthful resuspension of the facial and neck tissues. When necessary excess fatty deposits within the neck are removed and modifications are made to the superficial neck muscles to prevent the reoccurrence of neckbands.
Dr. Lamb will make his facelift incisions to minimize any shift in hairline and to afford maximum concealment of the incision scars. Facelift operation has its greatest effect within the cheeks and neck. Eyelid and eyelid-approach cheek lifting are frequently done at the time of facelift surgery, depending upon anatomic concerns.
Recommendations for any ancillary procedures such as these and others, including enhancement of the lips with microfat grafting, will be discussed with Dr. Lamb and a recommendation made to achieve a very harmonious appearance without an "operated" look.
Dr. Lamb will review the procedure in great detail during your consultation. You should bring any questions to the consultation to make sure you review them with Dr. Lamb.
After Your Facelift Procedure
After facelift surgery, you will experience temporary skin discoloration from bruising and some tightness or numbness in the face and neck. Although swelling will not look conspicuous to others as early as ten days following your results, you should expect some gradual change as the residual swelling resolves over the next few months. Since your skin will remain somewhat sensitive for a few months, protection from the sun, including daily use of a sunblock, is essential. You can wear cosmetics shortly after surgery (once all sutures have been removed).
Dr. Lamb encourages you to review his before and after Facelift pictures to see examples of his work. He has many more photos in his office and will be glad to review these with you at your consultation.
